The music genre that Ms. Julie Abijanac was so kind to give me was Reggaeton. Reggaeton is largely influenced by hip hop and Jamaican dancehall, however it would be a mistake to define Reggaeton as the Latino adaptation of either. Reggaeton has a specific beat and rhythm “Dem Bow” while Latino hip hop is just hip hop recorded by artists of a Latino descent. Reggaeton lyrics however tend to be more derivative from hip hop. Reggaeton like Hip Hop has caused controversy due to the so-called exploitation of woman and violent and explicit lyrics.
I think Reggaeton like American Hip hop is quite humorous. So I wanted to create almost a parody mocking the genre. I wanted to exploit any stereotype I could possibly come up with for it. I watched numerous Reggaeton music videos while researching for this project and they all had a few things in common. The all had souped up cars in obnoxious colors, the actual artists themselves gave off a Latin king vibe, and every single video I watched has some half naked girl shaking her ass near or on a car. So I incorporated all of these.

for this project I chose to do an after effects piece. my constant in all 8 panels is my name. I chose high contrast black and white because I wanted to be very type oriented . it starts with rhythmic and goes into geometric- dynamic-inanimate-asymmetrical- symmetrical- animate- natural. it turned out different then what i originally wanted. i was having trouble animating a mask the way i wanted it to.

panel 1
this is the majority of my first panel which is the geometric panel. I am going to do a motion graphics piece for this project using my name in high contrast black and white. However, I have been sick since last week and was in Mansfield until this morning and thought i had put after effects on my aunts computer but turns out i didnt. but i will talk to you about that when its my turn.

unity of elements

this is panel one. my word was dream. I want each panel to get more and more blurry as the series progresses to represent how one forgets a dream through out the day. my final piece will be the most abstract. I chose the colors blue green, blue, and blue purple because cooler colors are more associated with a dreamlike atmosphere then warmer colors.

This is panel 4. The final step. I needed to put my worms into an environment. I continued with the being hunted sort of theme. I think they look scared even though they lack any sort of facial features. In this step we were allowed to use a triad. I chose a split complementary triad of red orange, blue, and blue green off of the 14 hue color wheel. I chose this because it allowed for a night sky, grass and allowed my worms to continue to be the right color.
This is panel 3. The shape that I created out of the word lanky has inspired worms. I was having trouble coming up with a lighting scenario that was suitable for my lovely night crawlers until my hick friend told me of how in the country they go out at night with flashlights to catch bait for fishing. I found this to be quite humorous and decided to go with it. For panel 3 we were allowed to use a monochromatic palette using full range of value. I chose red orange because that allowed for my worms to be the appropriate color. I painted it in photoshop using the wacom tablet, which is amazing. I was sort of opposed to using it, but then I gave into peer pressure and now I am a wacom fanatic! 9.22.2008
